BGC has become Metro Manila's most cosmopolitan district. Here's your complete A-Z guide to navigating life in the Fort.

BGC at a Glance: Why It's Metro Manila's Best Address

Bonifacio Global City — known locally as 'The Fort' — is a 240-hectare planned district built on the former Fort Bonifacio military base in Taguig City. Unlike most of Metro Manila, BGC was designed from scratch: wide pedestrian streets, underground utility lines, green parks, and a master plan that separated commercial, retail, and residential zones. The result is the closest thing Manila has to Singapore's CBD or Tokyo's Minato-ku: clean, safe, walkable, and cosmopolitan.

Getting Around BGC

BGC is one of the few places in Metro Manila where walking is genuinely pleasant. The district's internal road grid is walkable, with High Street, 5th Avenue, and Market! Market! all within a 10–15 minute walk from most residential towers.

For longer distances, BGC has its own free shuttle bus service running circuits every 15–20 minutes. Grab (the Philippine equivalent of Uber) is universally available. The Bgcbus app shows real-time shuttle locations.

Connecting to the rest of Manila: Traffic from BGC to Makati takes 15–30 minutes via South Luzon Expressway. To the airport, 30–45 minutes. To Ortigas, 25–40 minutes depending on traffic. The upcoming BGC-Ortigas center link road will dramatically improve east-west connectivity.

Food, Dining & Nightlife

BGC has the highest concentration of quality restaurants in the Philippines. High Street and Burgos Circle are the two main dining and nightlife hubs.

Japanese: Niku Kappo Saitou (premium wagyu), Guu (izakaya style), Yabu (katsu). Korean: Samgyupsal houses along 7th Avenue, with several 24-hour options. Fine Dining: Coya, Metronome, Vask (elevated Filipino). Cafes: %Arabica, % Fuku Coffee, Toby's Estate, Common Ground.

Nightlife: The Palace Entertainment Complex (Craft, Valkyrie, XX) is Southeast Asia-level. Black Market and The Drunk Poet for more relaxed evening options.

Healthcare & Wellness

BGC is home to St. Luke's Medical Center Global City — one of the finest hospitals in Southeast Asia, with internationally-trained specialists and an internationally-insured patient concierge desk. Medicard Philippines, Pacific Cross, and most international insurance plans are accepted.

Dental: Evergreen Dental, BGC Dental, and multiple specialist clinics on 5th Avenue. Gyms: Equinox-equivalent facilities at F1 Hotel, plus UFC Gym, Planet Fitness, and several boutique studios (Barry's, CrossFit).

International Schools Near BGC

International School Manila (ISM): 15 minutes from central BGC. IB curriculum, strong expat community. British School Manila: Taguig campus, British curriculum, popular with UK and European expats. Chinese International School Manila: 20 minutes, strong Chinese language program.

For Japanese families: The Japanese School of Manila is in Paranaque (30–40 minutes), but several Japanese weekend schools operate within BGC itself.
